Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Hotel and Hospitality Management
Built on the principles of ‘real world learning’, this is the only hotel and hospitality management degree in the UK that is run in conjunction with a five-star hotel, The Celtic Manor Resort. USW’s ground-breaking collaboration with Celtic Manor aims to produce the next generation of skilled hotel and hospitality managers.
Through a combination of classroom-based learning and practical experience, students will gain a detailed understanding of every aspect of the hotel business, as well as exposure to the workings of a five-star venue.
Learners will have the opportunity to develop practical and professional skills from the ground up. Moreover, students will be given exposure to industry experts from all areas of the hotel and hospitality industry, on-the-job training, interactive workshops and individual coaching sessions.
The practical learning is underpinned by theory, so students will learn about the concepts of hospitality operations and management in the classroom at USW’s Newport City Campus.
The first year focuses on the fundamentals of hotel business, sustainable food and beverage management, and customer service and quality systems. Students will also start to gain practical work experience at the Celtic Manor, right from the first term.
The second year will prepare students for managing the overall operations of a hospitality business effectively. As well as spending a significant amount of time gaining further practical experience, studies will cover rooms division management, revenue management and digital marketing for hotels.
During the third year, students will learn about sustainable hotel operations, managing diversity, and international business. Moreover, students will also continue gaining practical work experience at the Celtic Manor, with a focus on managerial level operations.
Graduates can expect to enter employment or graduate training schemes within the industry. The hospitality and hotel sector operates all over the world, so students can go as far as their ambition and their talent will take them. They also graduate with key skills that employers in any sector will value, such as communication, reporting and presentations, as well as a significant amount of work experience on their CV.
