B.A. Art Education
The Bachelor of Arts in Art Education program is designed to prepare students for a career in teaching art at various educational levels, from elementary through secondary schools. The curriculum combines a strong foundation in the principles of art and design with pedagogical training, helping students develop both creative and teaching skills. Program Prerequisites: Educational Requirements: A high school diploma or equivalent with a strong foundation in art, English, mathematics, and social studies. Some programs may prefer students who have taken art-related courses such as drawing, painting, sculpture, or design during high school. Portfolio: Many Art Education programs require applicants to submit a portfolio that showcases their artistic abilities, including examples of drawings, paintings, and other visual works. The portfolio helps demonstrate the applicant’s creativity, technical skills, and understanding of art concepts. Standardized Tests: SAT or ACT scores may be required for admission, with particular emphasis on the reading/writing and math sections. Some programs may also require an art-related skills assessment or a personal interview to assess the applicant's readiness for both teaching and art practice. Skills and Competencies: Strong artistic skills, including drawing, painting, and knowledge of various media. Effective communication skills to convey artistic concepts and techniques to students. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills for developing creative teaching methods and addressing student needs.
