This master's course provides the theoretical framework and practical skills students need to become a skilled and effective accountant. Students will learn how accounting and financial information is used to make decisions and how it fits in to wider business environments. They'll also develop practical skills by analyzing real data sets in software platforms. The program's diverse and international curriculum is based on the latest international accounting standards, making it relevant to home and international students.
The technical aspects of the MSc Accounting and Finance are in line with the requirements set out by the accountancy profession. The degree is also accredited by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), the leading global professional body for accounting. Moreover, completion of this course provides exemption from ACCA papers 1-4 and 7, reducing the time it takes to complete ACCA professional award and boosts learning potential.
In a typical week, learning takes place through a combination of lectures and seminars. Students will be able to discuss and develop their understanding of topics covered in lectures in smaller group sessions. Outside of timetabled sessions, they'll need to dedicate time to self-study to prepare for coursework, presentations and exams. Greenwich's Stockwell Street library and online resources will support further reading and research. Learners can also join a range of student societies, including the Accounting and Finance Society or the Trading and Investment Society.
Some accounting and finance graduates go straight into practice in accountancy firms. This allows them to work with multiple clients across various industries. Alternatively, graduates could work in areas such as auditing or stockbroking. Recent positions secured by graduates include assurance associate at Grant Thornton, financial modeller at KPMG, and counter-risk trader at Barclays Investment Bank.
