Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Architecture
The Architecture, BA Hons degree, accredited by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), is the first step to a professional career in architecture. Successful graduates will gain exemption from the RIBA Part 1 examination. This course is also accredited by the Architects Registration Board (ARB).
Teaching is based at the Stockwell Street Building in Heneghan Peng-designed galleries. Studio-based tutorial groups provide all the skills and knowledge students will need via a range of approaches to architectural design.
Students will learn to use design software and gain visual and drawing skills. They'll also study architectural practice, the history of architecture, sustainability, contemporary theory and technology. There will be opportunities to visit art galleries, museums and important buildings and lectures by eminent speakers.
Learners will be taught by an experienced team of experts, which includes senior academics, technical officers, and practitioners with industry experience. Trained postgraduate researchers may also contribute to seminar teaching with the module leader. Teaching is informed by research and writing.
This Architecture, BA Hons course is designed to prepare students for progression into year-out practice in the architectural profession, leading to advanced level study in RIBA/ARB part 2 MArch in Architecture. Therefore, students are not required to take work placements or internships in addition to this pathway.
As well as becoming architects, graduates can pursue opportunities in computer-aided design, animation, urban design, interior design, arts and media, project management, graphic design and the construction industry.
