Master of Science - Safety, Health and Environmental Management
With safety, health and environmental issues becoming increasingly important, there is a growing demand for professionals with the right skills. The MSc Safety, Health and Environmental Management degree produces such health and safety practitioners, who can identify, assess and solve health, safety and environmental problems by applying the principles of good management.
Students will develop their knowledge of technical subject areas through an extension into managing health and safety, while giving due consideration to the sustainable economic development of business and the environment.
This course is delivered in three major blocks, which offers an intensive but flexible learning pattern. For each module, learners will usually complete two assignments based on case studies or workplace scenarios, plus an examination. There will be group work, recommended reading and tutorials each week. The final dissertation will be bespoke to students and could be based in industry.
The course is professionally recognized and accredited by both the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) and International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (IISRM). These accreditations offer a range of benefits to student members, such as career support and advice, access to a range of workshops, masterclasses, mentoring, CPD and networking opportunities. Graduates can then apply and progress towards the IIRSM fellow status and IOSH graduate status.
Career prospects are excellent, particularly as employers value the skills and experience students will gain through this programme. Opportunities exist in a variety of organizations, including environmental protection, and occupational safety and health in private and public sectors.
