About
Established in 1965, Algoma University is proud of their unique ways and it’s this drive that makes Algoma the right place for students, their future, their mark.
Students are looking for a university that understands them. A place that will leverage their career intentions and be their partner along the way. A university where faculty are ready to share their knowledge and convictions and direct students on the right course, and where graduates have carved a path to follow. From it's student-centered approach to learning, to one-on-one interactions with faculty, to the endless opportunities to get involved on- and off-campus. At Algoma, students have the opportunity to leave their mark on campus and make a difference in their community.
This is an exciting period for both the City of Brampton and for Algoma University as they work in partnership, along with other stakeholders, to expand post-secondary options for the citizens of Brampton and the International community.
To respond to the growing needs of the City of Brampton, Algoma University is proposing to expand its academic offerings by creating a Centre for Social, Cultural & Economic Innovation in the heart of downtown Brampton. By Fall 2020, in addition to its School of Business & Economics, Algoma University will offer programs, degrees and certificates in Computer Science, Psychology, and Community Economic and Social Development, with additional, new programs to follow in 2023. Students at Algoma University’s Centre for Social, Cultural & Economic Innovation will obtain an education that prepares them to make significant contributions to the Brampton community and beyond.
Why Algoma University - Brampton
- Student-centric: Classes are kept small to provide students with more opportunities to participate, ask questions, and receive quality feedback from caring professors. Algoma's professors are always available for help and have an open door policy, plus they will get to know their student's names and dreams and help in every step in reaching them. Further, learning goes beyond the classroom. Faculty believes in providing students with as many hands-on learning opportunities as possible to take what students have learned in the classroom and apply it to real life work situations. Professors prepare students for life after school.
- Campus life: Be a student leader, join a club, compete on a varsity team, or work alongside faculty on cutting edge research. The opportunities really are endless to get involved at Algoma. Students will meet new friends and these experiences will help build up their resume. Plus, their leadership and volunteerism on- and off-campus are recognized on the Co-Curricular Record.
- Academics: The School of Business & Economics at Algoma University provides academic programming, in both Sault Ste. Marie and Brampton, that is relevant to the evolving economy and experiential learning opportunities inside and outside the classroom that will help students grow and find their place as a future business leader.
- Location: Algoma University’s campus lies in the heart of historic downtown Brampton. Within steps away, the downtown offers access to city and regional transit, and is home to over 1500 businesses and services. Enjoy great restaurants, shops, arts, entertainment, parks and culture. Garden Square, located directly beside Algoma U’s Brampton campus, offers free entertainment for all ages throughout the year including many events and festivals.
